Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex - Dehumidification Units Replacements

The prince George’s sports & learning complex is a large facility with an approximate area of 300,000 square feet.  There are two swimming pools within the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex, the competition and leisure pools.  The owner had commissioned a design/built team to replace the existing dehumidification units serving both the competition and leisure pools.  F&H was a part of the design/build team and performed the following tasks:


  • Reviewed existing construction documents including the available building and pool drawings.


  • Performed site surveys to determine/verify the existing mechanical and electrical system/equipment serving the competition and leisure pools.


  • Performed the heating and cooling load calculations for the building envelope and the pool in order to determine the size of the dehumidification units in coordination with the pool manufacturer’s (PoolPak) representative.


  • Selections of the roof mounted dehumidification units to replace the three existing split dehumidification units (two 80 tons and one 70-ton units).  


  • Selections of the gas fired boilers heating water boilers which will replace the existing gas fired boilers and serve the new dehumidification units.   


  • Preparation of the demolition and new work drawings which will show the replacement of the dehumidification units. The new drawings will show the new equipment, ductwork, heating water and pool heat recovery piping.


  • Preparation of the sequence of operations for various modes of operations for the dehumidification units and related boilers.


  • The structural construction documents for the support of the roof mounted dehumidification units were prepared.
