The project consisted of the renovation of 825 feet long concrete fishing pier which was constructed   during the late 1980’s. The structural engineering services included the performance of design and construction   administration services for the replacement of existing timber railings and   miscellaneous repairs throughout the pier.

  • The existing fishing pier consisted of a pre-cast concrete floor deck, pre-cast, pre-stressed concrete I-beams supporting the floor deck, pre-cast concrete pile caps and piles and timber railings. Portions of the existing timber railings had been designed for ADA accessibility.

  • Portions of the existing pier had deteriorated and needed to be repaired or replaced. The deteriorated components of the pier included the damaged or missing expansion joints along the floor deck, damaged areas of the concrete floor deck including cracks and spalls, deteriorated and spalling concrete at several pre-stressed concrete I-beams, deteriorated segments of the wood railings, and deteriorated steel bearing pads supporting   the main concrete beams.

  • The scope of work included the field investigation and evaluation of the existing damages, preparation of construction documents and cost estimate and performance of construction phase services. Due to the age and extent of the deterioration of the existing wooden railings, a replacement  approach for the railings was selected. The replacement railings consisted of aluminum and timber combination fishing railings designed for ADA accessibility.

  • Bidding and construction phase services consisting of site visits and preparation of visit reports, review of the   shop drawings and submittals, responses to the contractor’s RFIs, attendance at progress meetings and preparation of meeting minutes, review of the contractor’s payment requisition submittals, attendance at the substantial completion site visit and preparation of visit report and coordination with the contractor and owner were performed.
