PetroChoice - Loading Dock Modifications

Discipline:

Structural Engineering

Halethorpe, Maryland

Square Footage:

40,000 sq. ft.

PetroChoice which is a leading lubricant distribution firm, relocated their motor oil distribution center from Laurel, Mayrand to Baltimore County in Maryland. An existing 40,000 square feet warehouse served as the new lubricant distribution center for the company’s motor oil and anti-freeze products. The one-story warehouse building construction consisted of raised concrete slab-on-grade floor and concrete foundation walls, steel roof farming and column system and pre-cast concrete exterior walls.  F&H provided the following services for this project:

  • Field visit of the existing distribution center in Laurel, Maryland for visual observation of the existing storage tanks and the equipment that will be relocated to the new site.

  • Field survey and measurements of the building at the new site to verify and document the existing building layout and conditions versus the information shown on the original structural drawings related to the modifications of the existing loading dock.

  • Review and evaluation of the relevant portions of the existing building structure, including the foundation plan and details, based on the original structural drawings and field survey for impact on the new work.

  • Performance of structural engineering services for the expansion and modifications of the existing loading dock to accommodate the needs of the new distribution facility. The services consisted of preparation of structural construction drawings showing the demolition of portions of the existing loading dock walls and foundation and concrete slab-on-grade, new loading walls and foundation and structural details and notes. The details and specifications for the new steel bollards, located within the modified loading dock area, new steel stairs serving the modified loading dock and new steel railings around the perimeter of the modified loading dock were included on the structural drawings.

  • Coordination with the owner throughout the construction phase for obtaining the required permits and to respond to the subcontractor question.
